Bred in Australia, Duke was purchased as a yearling by Mr. Leo Chan . His entire racing career was spent in Hong Kong where he won 6 races and amassed HK$4,175,970, equivalent to NZ $1.27 million.

His sire "Kenmare" was a French bred and raced who was most successful as a racehorse and prior to his purchase to Australia was Champion French Sire in 1988 and 1989, second in 1995 & 96, and third in 1997. He was Champion French Sire of 2 year olds in 1984, 85 and 88. His sire sons have been very successful including "Highest Honor (40SW) Kendor (21SW), Kenvain (8SW) Kenfair (7 SW) Tribu (6 SW) & Metal Storm (6 SW).

New Zealand Breeders had the opportunity to access "Kenmare" through his son "Kenfair" who stood at Glenmorgan Farm for some years before Australian breeders – recognizing the gem his breeding represented bought him and he returned to Australia. As so often happens no sooner had Kenfair left New Zealand and his progeny started performing – Irish Rover, Fulla Vink, Rocky Point, Fair Smokin' to name a few.
Recently Express Duke has finally been represented by some of his progeny performing on the racetracks in New Zealand.
Cheval Stud have been frustrated by the lack of promising horses by this sire seen out at our races in New Zealand. Almost without exception his promising trial winners have previously been snapped up by agents for overseas buyers. However this season we have been able to watch the progress of exciting progeny the likes of "Turbo Express" "Express George" "Choo Choo Devil" etc. Here at Cheval we have also recently broken in some of his progeny which are lovely strapping grey horses that we think a lot of.
