We are all familiar with the broodmare achievements of Eight Carat in producing Kaapstad to Sir Tristram and later Octagonal and Mouawad to Sir Tristram’s son Zabeel.
Eight Carat’s daughter, the Gr.1 speedster Diamond Lover has carried on the tradition by producing not only the dual Gr.1 winning Tristalove to Sir Tristram, but also Don Eduardo, winner of the Gr.1 Australian Derby to Zabeel.
Diamond Lover is of course also the dam of the stakes winning Antwerp by Sir Tristram, she the dam of dual Gr.1 winner Viscount and his brother Helsinborg.
The different aspect that Diamond Lover brings to this breeding dynasty which has revolved around Sir Tristram and his son Zabeel is her sire Sticks And Stones.
Sticks And Stones is by Todman’s brother Faringdon out of Winged Beauty and the important contribution which Sticks And Stones makes is via the addition of Star Kingdom blood.
Star Kingdom in this instance serves to sex balance the numerous male lines of the mare Canterbury Pilgrim found throughout the pedigree of Don Eduardo.
As well, Sticks And Stones adds the horse Great Sport.
Great Sport is a son of Gondolette and Gondolette is the ½ sister to Serenissima, dam of Selene.
Selene of course is not only the dam of Star Kingdom’s grand sire Hyperion, but she is also the fourth dam of Sir Tristram.
I think that Don Eduardo’s sex balanced lines of Selene, her dam Serenissima, Serenissima’s dam Gondolette and on through to Canterbury Pilgrim and her dam Pilgrimmage will be helpful to many mares.
Don Eduardo is of course by Zabeel and his grand dam is the dam of Kaapstad. We are therefore able to combine the knowledge gained from the successful matings of these two stallions and combine it with Don Eduardo’s own special genetic contribution to suggest a selection of broodmare sires which may be compatible with Don Eduardo.
