Opportunity Knocks Breaks Through 25 Oct 2006
The Haunui racing team received a boost today when Opportunity Knocks (NZ) (Traditionally – Te Akau Bird) notched up his first victory in what is hoped to be a prosperous three-year-old season.

Trained by Mark Walker, Opportunity Knocks started twice as a two-year-old finishing fourth in his first start and was narrowly beaten when second to Alberto (NZ) (Magic Albert) at Hawke’s Bay. A horse that was always going to come back better as a three-year-old, he has had three starts this preparation with a last start third leading in to today’s race.

Settling well in the middle of the field, Opportunity Knocks was pulled to the outside by rider Michael Walker and finished strongly in the straight to beat the older horses over 1670m.

“The horse will learn a lot from this win as he is still quite green,” said Mark Chitty of Haunui Farm. “It is certainly a good result for him to notch up his first win and he will head out for a two week break now and then be prepared for a campaign over the Christmas period and into the Autumn,” he said.
