Frank Ritchie has Obsession on target for The Oaks in March 17 Jan 2010

Obsession’s reputation as ‘a top filly in the making’ continues to gather momentum, and she now looks a serious contender for the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks in March.

Obsession was a standout juvenile for Frank Ritchie, and he rated her highly as a 3YO prospect  - though injury ruled her out of the spring opportunities.

Returning to the racetrack on December 28th , Obsessions first-up effort (pictured) resulted in her running a slashing second to the well regarded Redoute’s Choice filly Nina From Pasadena.  Showing she’d lost none of her dash or competitiveness, her resuming effort that day was full of merit and though beaten (by a nose) Ritchie and regular jockey Michael Coleman and were all smiles.

Obsession's return to top form continued with an emphatic win yesterday at Ellerslie.  Her dominant win, saw Kilkenny and hot favourite Blonde Bombshell struggling as she cruised two lengths clear of both at the winning post.  This latest win continues the exciting run among Bachelor Duke's first crop, with his colts Keyora and Prince of Wales both fancied in the Derby calculations.

Ritchie will target Obsession towards the New Zealand Oaks in March, and though supremely confident she has the necessary ability, he is conscious that the filly must continue to do everything right given the tight deadline leading into the March feature.
