Three Bachelor Dukes’ to start in Sundays $200,000 NZB Insurance Karaka 3YO Mile
Bachelor Duke will have three of his first-crop progeny racing in the $200,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Karaka 3YO Mile, at this Sundays Ellerslie twilight meeting.
Open to graduates of the 2008 Karaka sale, Bachelor Duke colts Keyora and Prince of Wales will compete, together with his filly Bewitch who placed 3rd in last year’s $1,000,000 Karaka Million as a 2YO.
All-three were bred at The Oaks, the colts selling in the stud’s Premier draft and Bewitch in the Select. Included in this year’s Oaks draft are a Darci Brahma half-brother to Keyora - Lot 402, and a full sister to Prince of Wales - Lot 153.
Another high class 3YO representing Bachelor Duke this weekend is last start winner Obsession. Frank Ritchie’s talented filly will take on Katie Lee and co in the Gr.3 Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham, and though drawn wide, Ritchie rates her a strong chance on reasonable footing.
With Bachelor Duke eldest progeny 3YO’s, he continues his rapid rise as one of New Zealand’s most exciting young sires. The leading first season sire of 2008/09, his first-crop again have him to the fore as the leading second season sire.
