Ogygian…..Brilliantly fast

It should not surprise that Spartacus showed early ‘brilliance’. Not to ignore the Danehill influence Spartacus’ own damsire Ogygian was a brilliantly fast race horse. His record at 2 franking that speed. Equal top weighted USA 2 year old, Ogygian won his three starts at 2, including a 1200 allowance race at Belmont Park by 8 ½ lengths and stepped up to the Group 1 Futurity Stakes winning by 9 ½ lengths. At 3 Ogygian again stepped up to the mark winning two more Group Ones.

Ogygian is compiling a quite outstanding record as a broodmare sire with a current tally of over 30 stakes winners. He is already known to Australian breeders as the dam sire of Johannesburg. Johannesburg himself the fastest 2 year old of his year and crowned 2001 World Champion with four Group One’s. His haul included the Gp 1 Middlepark Stakes, Gp 1 Phoenix Stakes and the Gp 1 Prix Morny before showing up America’s best in the Gp 1 Breeder’s Cup Juvenile.
