STUD RECORD Commenced stud duties in Ireland in 2004 and New Zealand in 2004. Spartacus ‘SOLID’ at Karaka 2010 Spartacus had a solid week at the Karaka sales. Spartacus’ Select yearlings averaged $63,333 and his Festival yearlings averaged $21,500 (2007 service fee $8,000). The demand followed on from the very good run of form shown by his progeny in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Among his progeny is the Allan Sharrock trained 3YO gelding Ballybit, who has won two of his three last starts and is rated a strong prospect for the $2.2 million New Zealand Derby in March.
The Allan Sharrock trained Ballybit (pictured) was an impressive winner of the last race at Ellerslies’ twilight meeting. Sharrock purchased two Spartacus yearlings at Karaka, including the top priced colt – Lot 1078 from The Oaks Rory’s Jester mare Jester Flight.
Spartacus continues his good run, leaving promising winners week-in week-out... His first crop of 63 foals are now 4YO’s and despite his being the leading first season sire of his year, many of his progeny continue to show improvement with age, and with the stepping up to middle distance racing. How Much My Love makes it 4-from-8 in Australia

Trained by Danny Williams at Goulburn, the Spartacus gelding has now scored four wins from his eight starts. Williams plans to continue taking the talented How Much My Love through the grades and will target some ‘nice races’ through the Sydney Autumn carnival. Doug Harrison rates HIGHLY The Red Emperor The Red Emperor was an impressive winner of the A$45,000 B&D Technologies Mile Handicap at Ballarat in November, and was a nose second in the A$70,000 MVRC Essendon Hyundai Handicap race over 2040m at Mooney Valley on January 2nd. Cranbourne trainer Doug Harrison has taken a patient approach, giving the 4YO gelding just 13 starts, for three wins and six placings. Harrison believes The Red Emperor has the makings of a very good horse and intends stepping him further in distance at his next campaign. Otto looks to the autumn opportunities with Oakwood Oakwood looked good winning her debut last autumn, and then taking second place in both the listed Castletown Stakes the listed Ryder Stakes. Rated by trainer Richard Otto as an exciting Oaks prospect, the filly missed her chance for the New Zealand Oaks through an injury enforced spell. Spartan...An up-and-comer Spartan, was the winner of his two starts in New Zealand last year as a 3YO, before being sold to Hong Kong interests. His former trainer Paul Moroney rated the Spartacus gelding as “a very, very good horse,” and labelled him as potentially “right up to Group One class as a four and five year old.” Since his arrival in Hong Kong, Spartan has had three races looking now ready to strike winning form after been placed at his last two. Spontaneous...winner at Mooney Valley on January 8th Spartacus gelding Spontaneous scored a good win at Mooney Valley in the A$70,000 Autocentro Handicap, over 1600m. Sea Prince breaks through for an impressive win in Hong Kong
Another impressive recent winner for Spartacus was the John Moore trained Sea Prince (pictured). Sea Prince was bred by the 2008 ‘NZ Breeder of the Year’ Scott Williams and is a half brother to the dual Group One winner Zarita and GR.2 Concord Handicap winner Run Like the Wind. Caratacus – Another bright Spring prospect for Spartacus

Spartacus' filly Maureen Dorothy to target Group One's
NZ Racing, Monday 4th February 2008
Te Aroha trainer Chris Smith has resisted the temptation to start his smart filly Maureen Dorothy (pictured) in the Gr II $120,000 Robin, Duke Of Bedford Matamata Breeders' Stakes at Matamata on February 23. Maureen Dorothy has yet to win a race, but rates as one of the best two-year-old fillies in the country after her second to Vincent Mangano in
Maureen Dorothy was the subject of an inquiry after the $1 million race and though the protest was dismissed her rider, Mark Du Plessis, was suspended for three weeks and fined $5000.
The Matamata feature is a fillies event and a big attraction for trainers, but Smith believes the race may not suit her.
'I think she'll be better going for the Sires Produce races,' said Smith.
'It will also give her a bit more time to get over the Karaka Million run, though she seems to have come through it very well.'
Maureen Dorothy's next start will therefore be in the Gr I $200,000 Ford Diamond (formerly Ellerslie Sires' Produce) Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie on March 8.
She will then get her chance at 1400 metres in the Gr I $200,000 Ford Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes at Awapuni on March 29.
Maureen Dorothy is from the first southern hemisphere crop of Spartacus and was bought by Smith for $52,500 at last year's National Yearling Sales.
She has had five starts for four placings with her worst result being a sixth at Awapuni.
She earned a start in the Karaka Million when second to Lady Alberton in the Stella Artois Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year's day.

SPARTACUS’ Filly KHASPA Shows Speed & A Cool Head
November 8th 2007 Spartacus gained his first Australasian winner on Saturday with his filly Khaspa (ex Kharlie Princess) cruising to an all-the-way victory at Te Awamutu. The filly made her debut showing both a brilliant turn-of-foot and a winning attitude. Quick to jump, Khaspa' was lucky to stay on her feet after stumbling at the start and going down on her nose. The filly showed remarkable composure for a juvenile in picking herself up and then very quickly taking the lead. Once in front she was never in any doubt and cruised to an all-the-way victory. Khaspa preceded the strong winning effort with a trials win over 800 metres at the Avondale trials on October 8 and trainer Stephen McKee believes there is much more in store for the promising filly. 'She has just kept improving and while she has been improving her attitude has changed,' said McKee. 'She's a nice type of filly and because she's not in the Karaka Million race there is no pressure on me. 'I can just let her do her own thing.' 'She'll probably run next in the listed stakes race on Counties Cup day or go to Te Rapa later on.' Khaspa is the third starter from Spartacus' southern hemisphere crop and her win came at the expense of another Spartacus youngster, Maureen Dorothy, who finished fourth after running third in her debut at Te Aroha last month. Spartacus has sired 11 two-year-old winners to-date from his first northern hemisphere crop.
