The New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame was established to recognise and honour those whose achievements have enriched the New Zealand Racing Industry. Thoroughbred racing in New Zealand dates back to 1814 and there is a rich history of high accomplishments that this organisation recognises and promotes.
Our third induction event was held on Friday 5th March 2010 at the Ellerslie Convention Centre, Auckland on the eve of the Telecom NZ Derby raceday at which 10 elite horses and people were inducted into the NZ Racing Hall of Fame in front of an audience of 390 people. The 2010 inductees to the NZ Racing Hall of Fame are: John Wheeler Defaulter Ray Verner Bonecrusher Linda Jones Eulogy David Peake Horlicks Grenville Hughes Grey Way The second induction dinner for the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame was held in March 2008. This event honoured 13 inductees and followed our very successful inaugural event held in March 2006 which was attended by 450 people. Our audience included the Prime Minister - the Right Honourable Helen Clark and Minister of Racing - the Right Honourable Winston Peters. Other attendees included people from Australia, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the United States as well as industry participants from around New Zealand. The NZ Racing Hall of Fame has a special relationship with its Australian counterpart - The Australian Racing Hall of Fame based in Melbourne. We thank them for their valued contribution and assistance in setting up our organisation.
