 ABOUT US
Sir James Lodge is a boutique equine establishment and training facility, situated in the heart of NZ's premium thoroughbred region, Cambridge.
The operation is a partnership between husband and wife team, Martin & Joanna Cleland who named their establishment after Sir James, a racehorse owned and trained by them. Sir James was one of NZ's top winter gallopers of his time and won 18 races in his career. Upon his retirement in 2001, Martin and Joanna named their operation, Sir James Lodge as a tribute to him and his endeavours.
 Martin has always worked with horses and has been a licensed trainer for 15 years. He is known for his patience and horsemanship, a result of both a strong pony-club background and extensive international work experience in the racing and breeding industries. He is considered a quiet achiever and is well respected in NZ amongst his peers.Joanna has a family background in racing and her work history is in the graphic arts, working in media, account management and marketing roles.
 Martin and Joanna with their love of horses and diverse and complementary skills run a successful and professional operation.
