STORM CAT

- Champion Sire and Sire Of Sires

In North America there is no doubt that the most sought after sire of sires is Storm Cat.

That comes as no surprise when one considers that the Overbrook Farm stallion has been champion sire twice and the champion sire of two-year-olds on no fewer than six occasions.

By Storm Bird, a champion European two-year-old who was one of Northern Dancer’s best sire sons, Storm Cat is out of one of Secretariat’s fastest daughters in Terlingua.

Storm Cat’s pedigree is predominantly an outcross, the closest in-breeding being Nearco who appears 4 x 5.

With 12 crops to represent him, Storm Cat has sired an incredible tally of 107 individual stakes-winners including the likes of 2002 US champion two-year-old filly Storm Flag Flying, European champion three-year-old Giant’s Causeway, champion and dual classic winner Black Minnaloushe, English Three-Year-Old and Older champion male Catrail, champion Canadian Two-Year-Old filly Silken Cat, Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner Tabasco Cat and Breeders Cup Classic winner Cat Thief.

The first sons of Storm Cat didn’t have runners until 1997, but since then at least 22 sons of Storm Cat have sired no less than 169 stakes winners.

Indeed Storm Cat is gaining increasing recognition worldwide as a sire of sires. His successful sire sons include Hennessy, Storm Boot, Forest Wildcat, Catrail, Tabasco Cat and Delineator, while his ability in this part of the world has already been demonstrated by the success of runners by Tale of the Cat who stood in New Zealand in 1999.

…the dynasty has begun and Van Nistelrooy is a sire son who looks a serious stallion prospect with his outstanding pedigree, conformation and performance.
