Christensen Estate
Christensen Estate is a small family owned vineyard. Our passion is merlot and we believe we have discovered a very unique place to grow this wonderful grape. On a narrow rocky strip of land that is 30 million years older than the rest of Waiheke Island, and originates from South America, we have planted our 10 acre vineyard
Every aspect of Christensen Estate merlot is hand crafted. Fruit is selectively hand harvested and the wine is fermented in open vats which are hand plunged four times daily. Finally our wine is matured in new French oak barrels for 14 months.
Christensen Estate 2003 Merlot
The 2003 merlot is the first harvest from Christensen Estate. The nose has aromas of cedar wood and cigar box mingled with black fruit. The multi layered palate is distinctively merlot with wonderful black cherry flavours. This elegant wine is full bodied with fine tannins and a nice persistent finish.
The bronze sculpture on our label “View from the Vineyard” is the work of renowned New Zealand artist Paul Dibble.
2004 Feather White
Lonely Cow 2004 Merlot - A concentrated, uplifted nose with aromas of plum, cherry and other black fruits. There are hints of cigar box and fresh tar. The palate is concentrated black fruit, with blackcurrants and blackberries and a long lasting finish. The wine is well structured with a nice tannic finish, making it a great food wine ideal with duck, roast pork and other gamey meats..
