Broodmares

We have developed a broodmare band with several key factors in mind:

1 Mares ideally should have good racetrack performance;

2 Mares must have quality pedigrees and be sired by well established stallions;

3 Mares must produce quality and marketable foals.

We have broodmares by champion stallions such as:

Nureyev, and Balmerino.


Owned by Woodbine Farm:

1 Bella Vino (2007 Chianti - Twinklebelle)

This filly was unraced due to an eye injury. We bred her and repurchased her recently. She has a yearling filly by Fully Fledged. She will be served by Danger Looms in 2011.

2 Bouquet Toss (2000 Nureyev - Madam Magoo)

A winner in Japan over 1400m and the dam of 3 foals including two in Japan - one of which Galliano by Tanino Gimlet has won recently in Tokyo, and promising Urgent Bells by Pentire - the winner of 3 races to 1200m last season. This mare has a world class pedigree and has a smart bay 2 year old colt by Danroad and a bay yearling colt by Librettist. She is in foal to Elusive City.

3 Gimmeawink - (2003 Carnegie - Kindergarten)

Placed at 2 and 3 years in Hobart. This mare is a 1/2 sister to the very promising winning Hong Kong and NZ Group placed galloper Bruxaar. She has a 3 year old filly by Darley Victoria stallion Gonski and has a bay yearling filly by Elusive City. She is in foal to Nom De Jeu.

4 Hucktooie - (1999 Lion Hunter - Hi Raffin)

A 1/2 sister to dual Group II sprinter/miler Buck's Pride. A winner of 2 races - 1 at 2 years and also a winner at Caulfield. This mare was owned by Melbourne trainer - Peter Moody and he has several of her progeny in his stable. She has a 2 year old filly by Elusive City and is in foal to Danger Looms.

5 Head Enfilade - (2000 Mr Henrysee - Top Dance).

Winner of 2 races at 2 including a win over 1200 metres at Canberra by 8 lengths. This mare is the dam of last start winner Shaken - a colt by Chianti which sold for $25,000 at the 2008 National Weanling sales. Shaken has been sold to Hong Kong where he has been renamed All Friends. She has a smart bay yearling colt by Elusive City and is back in foal to Elusive City in 2010. She is a daughter of our stakeswinning mare Top Dance and is her most precocious foal to race. This young mare is the 3rd generation (including Christina) from her female family to be broodmares for Woodbine Farm.



6 Lady Ayers - (1998 Bigstone - Motee).

Ra Ora bred Brisbane winning mare from a world class female family. Her first foal Ayer Conditioner is a winner in Australia in 2007/08 and her second foal He's A Hotty is a winner of 5 races to 1200m inclduing 4 in succession in late 2010 in Victoria. She is in foal to Danger Looms.


7 Lugano -(1992 Balmerino - Blue Waltz)
Dam of Kismet winner of 12 races to date in Singapore (S $284,000)and Malaysia. She has foaled a cracking colt by Chianti in 2008 (sold for $10,500 at 2009 Weanling sales) and he is now racing as Richard> from Stephen McKee's stable. He ran 2nd at his 1st 2 year old start at Te Rapa this season and has since won over 1200m at Te Rapa and finished a last start 3rd in the stakes race - ARC Champagne Stakes over 1600m.

8 Sangiovese - (2006 Chianti - Top Dance).

This home bred filly was a $25,000 weanling purchase and was unraced. She is from our grey family and foaled a colt by Coats Choice in 2010.She is a daughter of our stakeswinning mare Top Dance and is her last foal. This young mare is the 3rd generation (including Christina) from her female family to be broodmares for Woodbine Farm.
She is in foal to No Excuse Needed.
